Not sure of entire impact - one to San Fran reportedly turns back over the English Channel.

The bomb alert details at the A-330 factory is somewhat disconcerting.

"The item - believed to be a box containing three cans of fizzy pop connected with wires - raised suspicions that it could be a homemade bomb.

It was found in the engine of an Airbus A330 that was still being built.

But police and bomb squad experts who arrived at the scene and examined the threat said no explosives were present, a source told La Dépêche du Midi."

well maybe not currently present but why would anyone put three cans connected with wires in an A330 engine?!

Don't know why, of course. Only the numptie(s) who placed the make believe soda cans know.

But perhaps it is a message to the world that every Boeing Airbus product that comes out of that factory can potentially have a bomb implanted in it and thereby ANY Airbus is not safe anywhere.

They've gone to the core where every plane of a certain brand in the eyes of the public could be sabotaged before it even goes into service.

Not that it COULD be, realistically, but the optic of the find in the factory could leave a far-reaching impression that they (perhaps IS) hope could hit air travel in a macro way...?

There also is, of course, the "message" that there might be any number of IS saboteurs who are working for the manufacturer as moles.

Well my reading of the later issues of La Depeche is that the claims are a load of rowlocks...

But hey, it's only my local paper, and I'm not using Goggles translate, so what would I know.......

Too true.

In the end, it might end up (if it's true that the cans actually existed and were found) that it was an angry employee mad over a recent poor performance review and/or refusal of a salary raise who decided the soda can scare was the way forward. :ouch:

People just get up to all sorts, don't they?

It would be funny if it wasn't serious. The three cans were an impromptu gadget devised by the people who make the refrigerated drinks trolleys, for measuring their temperature. Which they accidentally left in a trolley which was being delivered. (From the latest on the La Depeche website).

Flightaware shows AF084 arriving in SFO about 4 hours late, presumably after turning back to Paris and then starting over.

This is so blatantly stupid as to suggest a bad joke, obviously in very poor taste, yet posed when millions are a bit on edge. Three soda cans and some wire? Somewhere, someplace there is a ot more to this odd story and we have not heard those details. Sensational headlines do NOT report a complete story. Where are the details?:=:ugh:
