Question guys, and if you can provide a reference (i.e. page in FCTM, etc) that would be great.

I am under the distinct impression that when configuring your flaps for landing (speed window open) that it is not necessary to wait for the called for flaps to reach that position (i.e. green line on display) before being allowed to reduce your speed to that flap setting on the AS indicator. Somewhere, I recall reading that Boeing has stipulated that adequate protection exists.

Any references out there?

Thanks!

If you're in 1 G flight, just keep your speed above the yellow arc (FCTM 1.11-1.12):Flaps Down Amber Band
For all flaps-down operations (any time the flaps are not full-up) the minimum maneuver speed is the slowest speed that provides full maneuver capability, 1.3g or 40° of bank (25° of bank and 15° overshoot) to stick shaker. The top of the amber band does not vary with g load.
. . .

Minimum maneuver speeds (displayed as the top of the lower amber band) should not be confused with flap maneuver speeds. Flap maneuver speeds are based on airplane weight, while the minimum maneuver speed is calculated using airplane angle of attack and current airspeed. These speeds provide independent means to ensure that the current airspeed provides at least full maneuver capability for terminal-area maneuvering.

What is a 744-8? I know of a 747-8 or a 747-400 called a 744.

Rick, that was 744/-8, not 744-8.
I assume it meant "-400 or -8".
