Is it time for a sticky "cowling fell off" thread ?
[Apologies if this has been covered before - couldn't find it. Thought I'd let the regulars post first]
While descending towards Brasilia the crew received a fire indication for the left hand engine with all other indications remaining normal, shut the engine down and discharged the fire agent.
Seems the BEA thought the fire indication was false, and caused by wiring damage.
Then with a missing cowling, would the fire suppression do anything ?
