Here's hoping for a safe ejection and that the crash site is an empty field.

The AC was based with the US Marines and was transiting from the Middle East back to the States after overnight layover in Suffolk so matters not if F18s are based over here. Always sad someone loses their life doing their job to keep us all safe and able to comment on PPRUNE

RIP

Pilot killed in US fighter jet crash | Fox News (http://www.foxnews.com/world/2015/10/21/one-person-reported-dead-in-us-fighter-jet-crash/?intcmp=latestnews)

Lots of small pieces and have to wonder what is under the blue tarp.
Marine Corps confirmed that the pilot ejected. Very sad.
