Not all A320s have this feature, our older ones require a call on the intercom to check.

Some aircraft have a switch somewhere near the No. 1 crew seat that they press when cabin is secure. This removes the blue 'check' part from the 'cabin' line on the ECAM memo. (I can't remember the exact wording - we receive cabin secure via interphone).

Switch is "virtual" on FAP screen cabin status page. This relatively new function is explained in WISE ARTICLE: CABIN READY FUNCTION (CIDS, FWS). FCOM and CCOM reflected function in checklist, but probably not in DSC.

Reference: 23.73.00023 or EngOps-16307 on Airbus World.

Supposingly, once the FAP button is pressed and the blue .... CHECK is removed, a contdown timer runs for something like 7 minutes. Once elapsed, CABIN .... CHECK re-appears on the T.O. memo.

I am really looking for the DSC, perhaps in the CCOM then?

yours, FD.

First time I hear about that timing and I have been in the ques for take off many times for 30 or 40 minutes and it never reappeared in blue.
But maybe I missed something :)

Level 600 access to airbus world for an individual is $14000 a year. Perhaps you could publish the appropriate pages!!

Umm, don't get me going about Airbus World. Interesting that Airbus have just 'demanded' their suppliers reduce costs by 10% whilst they rip off every one else.

Just wait until the true costs of their new Stall Buffet model hit the training industry as announced in Miami last week. One day, maybe the regulators will wake up to what the OEMs are doing. Maybe they won't.

I found this description/logic in Generic CCOM (for A/C with old,non LCD FAP).
This logic is valid for "Solution 1", with cabin ready staus displayed in checklist. Also second, simplified option exist for CR shown as memo on rh side, called "Sloution 0", which only indicate CR button pressed by CC with gear downlocked. Hope this help...

CABIN READY SIGNALLING
The cabin crew can indicate the actual cabin status through pushing the Cabin Ready pushbutton.
This pushbutton is installed on the Miscellaneous Modul of the FAP near to the Water & Waste / EVAC function keys.

The Cabin Ready memo is reflected in the Take Off and Landing check lists and displayed on the
ECAM in the cockpit as follows:
‐ if the cabin is not ready :
CABIN..........CHECK
‐ if the cabin is ready :
CABIN..........READY
and the Cabin Ready pushbutton (LED) on the FAP illuminates.

SET THE CABIN READY INDICATION
Push the CABIN READY pushbutton on the FAP to set the respective indication, but depending
on the actual Flight Phase the Cabin Ready function is only available during :
‐ Take Off procedure after the first engine is started (oil pressure high), or
‐ Landing procedure when Flight Phases 6,7 or 8 are reached (altitude < 2 000 ft) and the slats
are extended.

RESET OF THE CABIN READY INDICATION
An automatic reset of the Cabin Ready indication is performed after take off, on the ground after
landing and also for go-around. In detail the following conditions must be fulfilled :
‐ during Take Off after Flight Phase 4 is reached (airspeed > 80 kt), or
‐ after landing when Flight Phase 9 (airspeed < 80 kt) +30 s is reached, or
‐ during Go Around with slats retracted in Flight Phase 5, 6 or 7, or
‐ after Touch And Go with slats retracted in Flight Phase 4, 5, 6, 7, or 8, or
‐ when the Cabin Ready pushbutton on the FAP is pushed a second time.

Reference for our FCOM is DSC 33-40-10 (Lights/signs/controls and indicators/memo display).
Displays “CABIN READY” in green, pulsing 10 s then steady, when a signal from cabin crew is sent, in the takeoff and landing phases.
On some of our aircraft the blue will reappear if you're still on the ground after a certain time. I'm not sure how long it is, and the FCOM does not provide any clues, but I was told that the time period can be changed depending on company requirements.

I do NOT know, but I strongly suspect that this is yet another of those embedded, but disabled enhancements that Airbus will SELL to operators as a Value-Added Feature. (Don't get too snarky; Boeing pulls this stunt just as often.) The feature is already there, but unless one pays an extra fee, AB (or for Boeing's V.A. features) they simply disable it. Obviously, some operators buy and some do not. This and other features may be included with some software upgrades, or it could be a stand-alone feature, for a 'slight additional fee.' Personally, I think it is a horrible marketing practice but I don't write the rules. This is but one example of why the fly-away cost of otherwise nearly identical airplanes can vary so much. Please forgive the horrible analogy, but this is little different that purchasing a new automobile; the Up-Sell is substantial, even at the $125Mil level.:E

I was told by one of the people high up in my company who deals with aircraft purchases that Airbus was asking over £10,000 per aircraft. The company beat them down to £2000, but even that is too much for a LCC. So for now we just use the tried and tested flip tab and intercom.

Sorry for not coming back until now, the contributions are much appreciated!

I was not aware that the function is available to CC also with the old (non-LCD) FAP. Moreover as LVL600 shows, there seem to be two options.

1) ECAM memo "CABIN READY", flashing on E/WD lower right side. I too have the description in DSC-33-40-10 B "Memo display" in all FCOM versions available.

2) Blue action line "CABIN .... CHECK" embedded in the T.O. and LDG memos on the left side of E/WD.

These options are apparently mutually exclusive (?). Although even for A/C with the second option, the "CABIN READY" description is available in the FCOM paragraph; no big deal.

I had operated aircraft with both the classic and enhanced FAP, some of those newer ones had been equipped with the "CABIN ... CHECK" feature in T.O. and LDG memos. But two aircraft, sister ships, have this exact peculiar behaviour that Sue Ridgepipe describes. After some time since CC would had pressed their button, the blue line re-appears on E/WD.

A little bird tells me that for an unsuspecting crew, this could be a surprise happening at a very inconvenient moment before departure. Hence my interest to find FCOM reference and reason for posting.

thank you guys for the replies given,
FD.

One more thing, I found some sort of reference in the list of modifications: K4337: INDICATING/RECORDING SYSTEM > NEW LOGIC CABIN READY MEMO

I do NOT know, but I strongly suspect that this is yet another of those embedded, but disabled enhancements that Airbus will SELL to operators as a Value-Added Feature.

Its the same story with a lot of appliances, its cheaper to make a single specification than many differing ones. Computer printers are often identical from the bottom to top of the range, the cheaper ones have the more advanced features crippled to maintain the price differentiation
