I started with CEA on the 330 and from our conversations with management I know they are very keen to get experienced 777 pilots. Thus far, there are no bases but that may change in the not too distant future. Commuting is as per the contract which I understand is 20 ON, 3 Commuting days and 10 OFF at home. Commuting is Y positive with space available upgrade to J - disappointing yes but tolerable as it is likely you will only sit in Y a couple times per year.

CEA330,
Did you go through an agency? Would you recommend anyone for China Eastern?

Hi would recommend using GABS for a few key reasons:
(1) they are honest
(2) proactive
(3) have developed a good relationship with the company

There contact details:

GABS and wally are top shelf - wish Id met him before signing with my current agency.

I make no financial gain by recommending him at all but feel that the process of jointing a Chinese carrier is stressful enough you need an open and honest recruiter.

Wally Rutledge - now there's a blast from the past for moi!

Years ago was part of a contract organisation in Australasia, certainly felt he was about as honest as you could get in the contract industry....or as far as how he was allowed to be.

Any CEA DEC 777 folks that wouldn't mind posting an update on their experience with this particular contract.......!

Thank you.

I can't tell you anything specifically about the B777 contract, but I can say that Wally is the guy to contact and he will put you in touch with some of the guys working that contract.

I've now had 3 years experience working with Wally & GABS, and as others above have mentioned, they are the the exception in this business; helpful, forthright, and willing to put in the time to make a contract work for both parties.

Glad to hear about an honest contract company. But GABS doesn't publish the compensation like others. Are the remuneration packages in China pretty uniform with the contract companies? Thanks in advance.

I'm a pilot on 330 in CEA of Shanghai base. Our company really needs a lot of experienced CPTs on type. Days ago, the management from foreign pilots department talked with me to see how foreign pilots consider CEA(I don't know why he talked with me, maybe I had the experience of working in foreign airlines before). To be honest, we do not provide the best salary of the country, but we have long haul flights which may reach your home country and when you are traveling with staff ticket, the on-duty CPT will upgrade you if there are vacancies.
Regarding to the broker, most of them do not have future service for the staying in China, and this is criticized by many CPTs. I could recommend to the company and help the foreign departments to do some service if you are interested in applying my company. Now they are looking for more CPTs on B737 and A320.

@E165:

To my knowledge there is little, if any, difference in dollars between agencies once you add up the components of the compensation packages. In the case of GABS I'm sure that the numbers will be supplied if you email them.

Would someone know what's the experience requirements for DEC at the CEA?

LH777
6th Jan 2017, 00:58
From a post on flight international (for DEC B777)

Requirements:
1. Hold current B777 type rating
2. Have logged at least 3000 total PIC hours and 1500 PIC hours on type
3. Last flight on type within 12 months
4. Valid Class 1 Medical Certificate
5. ICAO level 4 or above
6. No accidents or incidents reported
7. Age 55 or below

If you're an experienced FO then you'd need to meet the requirements of CCAR121 upgrading on large aircraft, plus have substantial experience on type.

Hi there,

I am trying to find any info for DEC on A330, but it looks like CEA is hot hiring at the moment. Or am I missing an agency that does that now?
Anyone able to help with any info?

Thanks!

Hi CEA guys

Anybody recently been through the NTR B777 FO Hiring process??

My agency (Oh I see) just sent off all my application docs.

Any idea of the interview process from here on will be highly appreciated.
Especially the time frame (if successful) from application to start date. $

Do they provide tickets hotel, etc, been burned before 😳

They need to direct Hire.

Giving up weeks of time to 'pass' an interview at your own cost, when basically you're paying to get a job doing examinations, sims and so to get a licence.

They need experience, then they need to pay for it all.

I'm guessing you haven't yet been around the block in the expat world. How things are and how things ought (perhaps) to be are two different things.

FWIW, the process for my group at CES was the most respectful I've ever encountered. Although it took time, a senior VP of the Flt Ops dept. actually came to us, arranged and paid for screening sims at our home base in order to hire us. And, he showed genuine interest in who we were and what we could bring to the operation.

There's no perfect expat carrier, but these guys get full marks for being genuine, honest and flexible.

anyone know any details about the SFO jobs- "upgrade after a while" with Tempo aviation?

Is this really happening with China Eastern on the 330?

Thanks

There won't be anyone in position to answer this, as it is a new scheme and no one has been thru this so far.
All that can be said is that it is legally possible. Be aware however that if you can't show some PIC time you're going to be issued a CPL by the CAAC after you have passed the CAAC check ride, and will have to go for another CAAC Sim check during your upgrade process. The fail rate of these checks isn't exactly zero...

Couldn't agree more with CEA330Driver. Wally Rutledge from GABS is a stand guy who handles our interest well. Have been with CES for year now no regrets. Paperwork is slow though but that is government. Go with the flow and you'll get there.

RE SFO's, it is not a firm arrangement yet but they're working on it.
RE DEC's onto A330, it's a cruise captain position and after one year you can be upgraded to captain, subject to passing assessment.

I'm looking for some first hand info about the life as a 777 skipper for China Eastern. Could any active captain please let me know (pm is fine if you don't want to expose too much on a public forum) how the rosters/pattern look like, the way they treat you and any other important details one has to consider before joining?
Thanks in advance
