Hi All,

I am spending a few days near Nice, in the South of France on a European Road trip. Anybody has any recommendations for a friendly flying club in the general area for a local flight to see the sight from the air? Unfortunately I understand only a few words in French.

Forget Nice (LFMN), no GA flying there.

Fayence (LFMF) is mostly glider traffic, but I've seen a few flight training ads around the airfield as well. However the airport is A/A frequency with mostly local clientele so I'm not sure English will be of any use (and the airport is far from the coast anyway).

Further west along the coast there are several restricted airfields (site rating / PPR PN), including Le Luc (LFMC) for which I heard they had a few flight schools and/or aeroclubs. No personal experience tho.

So your only real choice is Cannes Mandelieu. It's a business aviation hub with several FTOs and aeroclubs in it. From there you could do a nice coast transit (fantastic scenery) or fly inland, as convenient. Try Cannes Aviation (http://www.cannes-aviation.com/en/contact.html) or google 'aeroclub de cannes' to obtain some numbers/websites.

Thanks much for the help. In the end I went with Aeroclub d’Antibes who are based at Cannes Aerodrome. Went over the bay and around the hills, lovely flight in their Robin DR 400.
