Aeroplanes are cooler than trains. I'm pretty happy keeping my yellow book.

Shame. I heard that under EASA we're about to get yuck flimsy purple cards or something instead. I still haven't got over them taking away my classy old passport.

Wrong job? No. Wrong union, maybe?

And how much do they work for that salary? How much annual leave do they get?

Very happy doing my day job thanks, haven't looked elsewhere for a job. Ever.

Ignore those rail salaries. The average is much much lower. Yes, it's possible for a signalman to earn that if said signalman is in the highest graded (9) signalling centre, is on London allowance and is putting in a maximum allowed 72 hours per week.
The same applies for the other jobs mentioned.
Source was probably the Daily Wail cherry picking it's facts again. An awful lot of signalmen in smaller 'boxes are on less the £30K per annum.

Having done both jobs, I fully agree with RedhillPhil. It's like using Swanwick senior ATCOs salary scales as an industry baseline when compared with, for example, TfL bus controller's pay.

Gingerbread Man,
I always thought it odd that the 'head honcho' of the NATS ATCO's union is....A NATS manager. :E

As CJ once said to Reggie P : "I didn't get where I am today without recognising promising inroads when I see them" ;)
