I stumbled upon this fascinating account of the first jet crossing of the Atlantic by Vampires in 1948. Enjoy!

As far as 'stumbles' goes, this is the best yet.

Great find! :ok:

Brilliant, and as an aside, Mike Lyne mentioned at the beginning, a former CAM Hurricane pilot, was Commandant at the T (file://\\towers)owers in the early sixties when we were in residence (and he was in The Residence!), and his son, Sir Roderick, former Ambassador to Moscow, sat on the Iraq Inquiry

So if this flight was the first ever crossing of the Atlantic by jet planes, why does no-one know about it? I have had a quick look on Google and Wiki but cannot find anything about it!

Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De_Havilland_Vampire) and Flight (http://www.flightglobal.com/pdfarchive/view/1948/1948%20-%201135.html) both covered the story..
