Hello folks, what do you do if an APU on the 737NG fails to start inflight before entering the ETOPS segment (before reaching the EEP- ETOPS entry point) ? I belive you can continue flying the ETOPS segemnt if the APU failed once you have entered ETOPS.

Thanks

Pretty simple.

Fails before ETOPS entry: cannot continue.

Fails after ETOPS entry: use your best judgement to make the decision to continue or divert.

By the way, the 737NG APU is now certified for inflight starts up to 41 000 so no need to start it for the ETOPS segment if you get the requisite maintenance procedures in place.

Why is there a need to run the APU? Just curious.

Depends on certification. The 737 needs the APU for ETOPS, the A320 doesn't. But then, the 737 only has two engine driven generators and no RAT.

Your G550? Your crew also?

737Ng does not require the APU to be running during ETOPS flights, if the airline is apu on demand qualified.
