Local crews are in Bangui, Conakry, Monrovia, Niamey, Ndjamena, ...everywhere in eastern africa, but jobless local pilots on these plcaes are not complaining here.

If SAFAIR is the same company as I know 20 years ago it is a French cargo company working in particular areas with ex french airforce crews.
May be it will explain french accent

If SAFAIR is the same company as I know 20 years ago it is a French cargo company working in particular areas with ex french airforce crews. It isn't.

It's a long established South African company that specialised in cargo, medevac and charters for the SADF during the guerilla war, and to the Antarctic for the Navy. They have a few Hercs.

It has recently started LCC domestic scheduled passenger operations and seems to be doing quite well, I've flown on four flights in the last few months and I'm happy to report no trace of a French accent.

Indeed! Started off with ZS-GSK L100-20 in the 70's. A lovely aircraft to fly.

Ended up with 16 or 17 L100-30's, I cannot remember the exact figure; I brought ZS-JIZ across from Dobbins Air Force Base.

One of the best companies I had the privilege to work for.

cavortingcheetah

Didn't the MD82s belong to Sunair for whom Safair did the maintenance?

Apparently French post guys who are under the umbrella of ASL of which SAFAIR is to.
Helping out as the crews needed are more the training department can train at the moment, I guess they are growing fast, good news for SA pilots.:D

Exactly - please don't mix SAFAIR and SFAIR (this one having disappeared 20+ years ago)

In the good old days, there was also some french accents coming from sharp, fast and noisy aircraft with the Castle roundel flying up North, and they hadn't come for money, please remember, you SA guys...
