For those of you routinely utilizing CAPDL/ADS C can you tell me if you are making a separate leaving and altitude report via the data link or are you letting this event report via the ADS C? I cannot find the definitive statement in the GOLD document.

ADS automatically reports for a number of events, an altitude change being one of them.
If you receive a CPDLC uplink requesting you to 'report' leaving or reaching an assigned altitude/level, then ATC require you to send this report irrespective of the fact that ADS will automatically send the same (not that you can tell). Don't ask why, it's just manadatory ATC protocol in some FIR's.
Depending on your aircraft type, there will most likely be an option to ARM this report. Alternatively you can send it manually.
No requirement for a CPDLC altitude report if you're not asked.
