Has anyone with this unit used the installed database approaches feature on the 496, I am having trouble with mine, the problem is when I select an approach (which contains the FAF and RNY threshold only) after passing the FAF the unit does not sequence to the next waypoint (the rny threshold). What it does is when approaching the FAF it will read for example 1m to the faf and 7m to the threshold ( faf to threshild =6m), after passing the FAF by 2 miles i would expect to see 4 miles to threshold but instead it will read 2m to the FAF and 8m to the runway so it is measuring the distance BACK to the FAF then back threshold. I I've tried it in Vectors and Direct to FAF mode both give the same problem. Any ideas?
Disclaimer:
Yes I know the 496 is a VFR only gps and the approaches it offers are for visual aid only, and yes i know the distance readouts are no substitute for a certified DME. And yes I know the synthetic glide slope is not based on any certified approach procedures and can not and should not be relied on.
