The MOD has agreed a contract to update and sustain the UK’s military air traffic management which is expected to save the taxpayer up to £1bn over the next 22 years. (http://www.raf.mod.uk/news/archive/15billion-uk-military-air-traffic-management-deal-29102014)

There's a novelty ... The programme, known as Marshall, will deliver a long-term, modern and reliable military Air Traffic Management (ATM) service that will allow aircraft to operate safely in all weathers.

I thought we were already doing that in 1965 when I started in ATC*

* and indeed earlier, thanks to Danny42C and others :D

When a Govt department says "SAVE" why do I always feel that a mugging of the taxpayer will be involved.

Which billion are they using, the million million or the thousand million?

SO they're going to give someone £1500000000 to save us all £16.6 each over the next 22 years.

Well thats most of my Trade out of a job and probably heading over to civvy street, also as well they are planning to have regional ground radio sections looking after a number of camps, so it will be interesting to see how they manage that and also how the manage out of ours call outs.

Never mind the cost, I'm sure that it will turn out as successful as all the other eye watering IT projects. The intriguing thing is the name, which is the same as that of a major UK Aerospace contractor that apparently has nothing to to do with the project! So is it an acronym? If so what does it stand for? Any suggestions? Of course there are...

Chug

Just a name that somebody pulled out of a Hat at a guess. Its been in the pipeline for quite a few years. Most of the GRMS's are already using Contractor Maintainers (Training and AAC units for example).

The Marshall plan? Sounds expensive.
