According to wikipedia the the definition of taxiing is the movement of the aircraft on the ground under it's own power and push-back is not considered taxiing - Taxiing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taxiing)

In contrast, eurocontrol seems to define it as any movement on the ground including push-back - Actual Taxi-Out Time - EUROCONTROL ATM Lexicon (http://www.eurocontrol.int/lexicon/lexicon/en/index.php/Actual_Taxi-Out_Time)

What is your opinion on this topic?
Any other reliable sources to look up for the correct definition?

Taxying is movement under own power; towing and pushing are not taxying.

Eurocontrol's terminology may be a bit loose, but if they want to define a departure as leaving the gate/stand they can.

From an ATC point of view, they don't really care whether you are under your own power or being pushed or towed. They just need a time stipulated from the gate to the runway so that slot times can be accurately determined, hence the taxi time field includes both. However, that is just for ATM purposes and doesn't define the act!
