I don't think basic regs say any more than hold an ATPL.

Actual upgrade requirements will depend on the company, the ops manual, the authority that approves the ops manual, the insurance etc etc.

At least you're not a 737-800 non-NG F/O, so you've got that going for you.

Which is nice.

Hi ohnocb, I believe that there should be minumu number of hours for the upgrade ,

The minimum requirements for Captain for any Transport Category aircraft is an ATPL, as OhNoCB pointed out. So, the absolute minimum will be whatever the minimum amount of hours is required to hold an ATPL - normally 1,500 total time plus a whack of other minor time building exercises such as night, IFR, etc.

As he correctly pointed out, however, it will be up to YOUR company to decide what THEIR minimum requirements for upgrades are. You'll find it in your Company Ops Manual under Pilot Requirements - or whatever it's titled there. There could also be seniority, insurance, and a whole host of other company specific requirements that, frankly, only your HR or Flight Ops department can answer for you.

That's the reason you can't find it in the regs.

well Thank you so much, I work for an airline in Turkey and The Turkish CAA claims 4000 hours total and at least 3 years airline experience, thats why I was really confused about it,

I want to find something in Europe soon that's why I was concerned about it,

Can you really expect to find a direct entry command position if you have less than 4000hrs? Down in the bottom part of the world you'd be luck to be flying a jet with that.

well framer , I have another projects, plus don't give up, I have 2000 hours , If I can work for a company at least a year , they might upgrade me after a year of being with them , why not ?

If they are rotating FO's through to the LHS as quickly as you seem to want then the more important question I would be asking is why? Where have all the Captains gone and why!

Just a thought.

you know companies like Ryanair, they upgrade their FOs after 2500 hours to LHS , thats what I thought that would be a good opportunity to jump LHS ,

Obviously depends on your airline needs but if they are expending and you work well,it generally takes 3000 TT,2700 hrs on type if you joined greener than green😊

Fair enough Selesone. I was genuinely curious as to whether or not you'd be able to get a command in Europe with less than 4000 hours and it seems you can. I know some 3000hr guys who would be better suited to command than some of hour high time guys so I have no problem with the concept at all.
Good on you for driving forward with your career.
Have you asked some older heads what they think of your idea? It reminds me of an old Captain I had when I first became an F/O, he used to say, on a regular basis," Sometimes young man, the long way is the short way" and he was often right.
Cheers

Be a bit wary as the rapid expansion at RYR that led to that scenario seems to be tailing off. I'm fairly sure there are also a long list of current RYR FO's awaiting their turn.

It might well take you a little longer then you think.

Take your time, learn the route structure and make sure you're fully prepared. Being in the LHS is less about flying and more about situational management. Something a lot of command course 'convertees' don't seem to grasp. :ok:

As I say, do you want to be a "quick" Captain or an "outstanding" Captain?

Well I talk about it with the CPTs who I fly with, majority of them have positive ideas , They told me upgrade if you can and as soon as possible, When you upgrade you have more chance to find a job and most important where you want to work, ot close your home,

I am not a greedy but I see some guys I fly with, They shouldn't even be allowed to fly but they are captain, and I said why not me ,

I have no hurry, I wait my turn , I fly , it is only to have an idea about upgrade process in Europe,

Insurers dictate a minimum and the industry standard is usually 3000 for narrow bodies and 5000 for wide bodies. But there will be exceptions and if companies want to upgrade their pilots with less than these, I suspect the premiums will rise.

Thank you Dan for giving you idea, I have 2000 total, next year I should have at least 2700-2800 , we will see what happens
