The pilots of Atlas Air Cargo have begun their 30 day cooling off period, ending 28 June 2002.

Within that 30 day period, if the company really wanted to be contentious...they could shift all (or most) of the business offshore...or in Polar's direction.:eek:

But the question remains.....will the Polar crews fly the Atlas cargo. This could become Veeerrry interesting!

Last I heard, Polar is hiring because they are already flying as much as they can handle; Atlas mainline pilots are augmenting AACS crews on a regular basis because there are not enough AACS crews; GSS has not yet gotten a certificate, so it will not likely be operating on June 28.
Doesn't sound like a lot of potential there...

Watch out for GSS they will gladly pick up the extra work! unfortunately, they don't have enough crews........at the moment!!

How can GSS pick up the work when they don't have an operating certificate? How much work can they pick up with 1 airplane (currently leased back to Atlas) and 1 more awaiting registry?
How long does it typically take an airline to begin flying revenue flights after the operating certificate is secured?

You guys need to look out for Southern Air.
In Miami, they can't seem to qualify these pilots fast enough.
By the way, when did Southern ever specialize in 747's?
Go to work or Atlas (and your jobs) are toast.
Southern Air has "specialised" in 747's...only for about the last three years or so....and they are busy (with Atlas business?) so i'm told.

Depending on existing circumstances, it is probably illegal for the Polar crews to do anything else except to fly during an Atlas strike, as much as they would surely despise the task.

Well, I'm sure none of the Arrow pilots would ever, ever cross an Atlas picket line...NOT!!!
Don't count on help from that sector, boys and girls.
Pilots working for Arrow, Fine, CAT, Falcon and numerous other 121 carriers out of Miami are there for many reasons, but I promise you Union affilation isn't one of them.
Picket line? Where are they going to picket? On the private property of their customers? In front of third parties like Swissport and Eagle Ops. that load the planes? In front of Atlas' office? That may stop people from flying Atlas aircraft, I guess....
This is going to get ugly. ACMI freight will be offered to other ACMI carriers, and I'm scared the Railway Labor Act won't protect other pilot groups if they refuse to fly it. This is a new kind of situation.

Another 26 days before the beggining of the end for ALPA in Atlas........
Go ahead guys if you think that a strike will make a difference, Polar and AACS are ready for it!!!!!!:D
Anyway, we'll see how many pilots are prepared to be unemployed.

It looks like AACS crews and Atlas defectors may be given the chance to show if they're going to scab or not. ALPA better have a plan B for Polar, or it's going to get very ugly on this side of the pond.
A real test for ALPA in relatively uncharted territory.

Yep...and the Atlas guys are headed in that direction.
Yes, Sprucegoose, there are a few here who think that's real funny to call my union the name of a dog food. They are convinced that it's the other 99% of us who are wrong and that they've got it wired. I immediately quit reading their posts, and ignore their future posts.
The good news is, there's enough of us pushing on the wheel together that the profession will keep getting safer, better and more profitable - we'll even make room for those few guys who are just convinced they've done it all by themselves.
