Quick question about a regulation.

OPS 1.295 talks about the selection of alternate airports. Specifically, it says that 2 destination alternate airports are necessary if there is no meteorological information at the destination.

What's sufficient meteorological information? METAR? METAR+TAF? A webcam I can check before departing?

Just curious since I couldn't find a definition anywhere.

I couldn't tell you where to find the actual reference, but surely common sense tell you you need a TAF covering the expected arrival period.

Totally agree with regard to a TAF. I just can't find anything written down about it.

In the FAA regulations an Area Forecast is also a source if no TAF is available.

However, considering the level of detail of some regulations I would have guessed that it would have been spelled out to some level of detail. It probably is some where since common sense is sometimes hard to find in aviation.
