Hi :)

Sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong section, but in preparing for an interview I was asked why the DA42 was designed with a T tail?

I know of some advantages and disadvantages (deep stall, elevator in the free airflow etc)

But i need some more detailed help.

Thanks

You left out the other "advantage" ... marketing strategies to appeal to the folk who are swayed by appearances .. it looks just like a lot of big jets ..

Might have something to do with it's sailplane heritage?

I'm trying for the life of me to think what big jets look like anaemic tadpoles with finlets on every aerofoil...

And before I get bashed for my description, I like flying the thing! I'm just saying it's not the prettiest machine on the apron. It also doesn't deep stall.

Mach Jump may be onto something, aren't ALL Diamond products T-tailed?

And a T-Tail makes it more difficult for people to bump into it.

Finally...

...with finlets on every aerofoil...

Have you seen the new 737-800s? Wingtips (now top and bottom), tail, engine, fuselage...
