Does anyone know how close a fixed wing aircraft is allowed to be to an airship. I have an urgent need to find out ... ahem .... and can't find any reference.

It must fall under the same rule as anything else aviation related. No formation unless the captains agree.

But remember they are jolly big so they will always look closer than they are.

Are you in trouble??

500 feet VMC I would have thought no?

Let me know if I can help. I'm an ex airship pilot. I may know the pilot/operator if it helps.

FWIW, we used to have lots of light aircraft coming close to have a look, never a problem.

Thanks for the offer 500Above. May well take you up on it.

Surely there's no rules on how close you can be to another aircraft in VMC if you're both VFR?

If he felt a risk of collision, there's only the airprox board who would look into it, and that's not about apportioning blame, only looking into the facts, how likely a collision was, and what can be done to prevent it in the future.

What's he threatening to prosecute under? Was it so close he felt threatened? Were you diving at home kamikaze style? If not, it's a big sky out there.
