The Brits Win in Spanish Pylon Race!

I´m over the moon to announce that Desmond Hart of Hart Attack Racing has won the Silver Final race in Llieda in Spain. He did it in Cassutt G_BOMB, recently repainted in Scottish colours, with a very trick prop designed and made by Hercules Propellers.

Trevor Jarvis had a dice in the rear in his Taylor Titch, Catch 22, narrowly beating a French CP80. He showed himself to be an exceptional pilot who will clearly be a winner if he has the right plane.

The Gold Final was won by Cristian Guille in his own design, Arletty II, possibly the most beautiful man made object I´ve ever seen. He showed the Americans a clean pair of heels who came in second(Jay Jones in Quadnickel) and third(Thom Richard in Margaret June), who themselves were gracious and competitive throughout.

Today is a great day for air racing. Now I´m off to the pool for the post race beer fest and crew chief throwing(into the pool).

Try looking on youtube for Air Race F1 and or facebook to see some of the action. It was televised in Spain so there should be some good stuff out there.

Here is Des passing Stan Damirov for 1st place. Stan is a terrific guy and and started nipping at Des' heels after applying a lot of speed tape to his Broussard. He finished within 5 mph of Des.

I was most amused to hear that in one of the youtube sports channel videos the winner, Christian Guille's name was being pronounced 'gooley'!

He's a top bloke, but has very little English, and I can't wait to try to explain it to him.:}

Its like an 'it girl' in that you can't capture its full beauty in a photo, you can only appreciate the thing when you see it in the flesh. The engineering is superb, its almost as simple on the inside as it is on the outside, and the lack of any pressure-recovery style shapes on it is also interesting. He even managed to squeeze a steerable tailwheel in there. It fits the builder precisely; I'm two inches taller than him and could only just fit in it with the canopy closed, and my knees were up against the spar, yet for him it was ideal. He also carved the prop himself.

I think the 3/4 view is best..

The engine is not even a race one, and he claims about 100 hp for it. With a race engine we reckon on it comfortably being able to top 300mph in level flight.

I'll reserve comment about it being a stock engine as I heard the noise it was making! Awesome sight in the air however, especially when you see it go past you about 5' from your wingtip in a turn!

The reason it didn't sound stock was that he was running it at race revs (>3500 for those that don't know), and had a four into one exhaust. He must have balanced it, but I did pin him down on whether it had been ported and he said no, and he also said he was running a stock cam.
