No,that was Mt.Galunggung in 1982

The linked article does mention 129 active volcanoes in the area.

there are several Gunung Api's in Indonesia

This one is just NW of Komodo island and east of tambora

Not the one that sits on it's own in the Banda Sea - goes off quite often and has been used as a navaid for sea folk for centuries

From the above chart the ash over Darwin is in the upper air FL200 upwards?? Surely flights below that would be permitted??

Yep all ok good to go, ops normal below FL200.
Get real. Alaska Airlines or whoever they are set the scene for volash ops years ago.
Day VMC Rings a bell. You can't tell the difference between ash or cloud they said. Worked out alright for them. Good effort.
