Kabul - aircraft accident -

Does anyone have any info on the recent (around 1300z today) accident at Kabul ? Vague 'crash at Kabul airport' but thats all I have.
Any info would be welcome.

This may or not be related but I just noticed a report in the media but it is dated 25th April but only just showed up ???

AN Australian defence plane has overshot a runway in Afghanistan. No one was injured but the C-130J Hercules aircraft needed to be towed away for inspection after the incident at Kabul International Airport on Wednesday night (AEST).

Aircraft over ran the end, apparently been raining hard there today.

After the ILS being u/s for ages due to calibration issues, this happens. :ugh:

The C-130J of the RAAF was a different incident, where the aircraft left the runway to right, and only closed the runway for a few hours. There was no damage in that instance.

Typical, they were nice aircraft (4 of them), ex Turkish Airlines, bought by Pamir Airways, and then left to sit for ages without any maintenance or preservation programme.. and then barely operated by Ariana..

The best is the comment from the head of the airport... "The Boeing 737 was not damaged in the early afternoon incident and came to a stop off the runway on its own, Rasouli said."

Having been based at Kabul Intl Airport for the last 4 years, it's a great indication of how much aviation knowledge "DR" Rasouli has.

But that is what we come to expect from them, it really is the aircrafts' fault, catching an under-qualified and inexperienced pilot unaware like that..!!! Like you I have been there and got tired of it.

Anyone know why the procedure missed approach gradients went up so much earlier this year? They were unchanged for years. :confused:

Real problems carrying in meaningful payload now. Any ideas (unless the mountain range out to the south just grew by 5000'!)

Not sure, but the ILS minima went down from 1600m (IIRC) to 800m, perhaps this has something to do with it?

Just a wild stab in the dark, but my guess is lengthy ongoing debate on who will fund fixing the ILS. Having experienced how the 'management' works, blame will be deflected onto any western organisation or company in anyway connected, past or present.
If ISAF funded the original installation, then ISAF and/or any civilian contractor involved will be put under pressure to fix the kit.
Anyone know if the FAA mentors still work in MoTCA and is the good Dr influenced at all by his command chain?

Thats one heck of a long runway to go off the end of.? 11,000 ft. It seems they had to be way off. Thankfully no one was injured.

It sure is, but the go-around option past MAPT IMC ain't great, certainly if the end of the runway is looming.

Personally, VFR over the city would be a better option than stacking it off of the end.

Know many types that can meet 420 Feet per mile to FL170?!?
