Sorry everyone, its another one of those " i did a search but still cant find the definitive answer" threads:

I have the following situation with license/ratings and wanted to find out if I should juggle my leave/work to sort things out before this July or if it makes no difference....

Medical Expired
SEP Rating Expired (3 year ago)
Night Qualification
IMC Rating Expired (3 years ago)
JAR License about to expire in July this year.

As far as I understand it, if i renew my medical, do an (abbreviated) skills test and then send off everything to the CAA before July, I should get a shiny new EASA license with a current SEP(A), Night Q, and expired IR(r) stamped on it?

1) Is this correct? Do I need to do anything else and what forms will I need.
2) Is there any difference to what I need to do if the date of the license expiry passes in July?
3) Should I renew my IMC whilst I am at it (i am in no rush) e.g. would all i end up having to do is pay another fee later on to have it added as renewed after the IMC renewal test?

Any advice or pointers appreciated......

You've got it more or less spot on marioair.

It won't make any difference to the process if you let the licence lapse, but if you don't renew your IMC before you apply that will go on the back of your licence. Then, when you do renew it, the CAA will charge you £89 (currently) to put it on the front with your other privileges. The forms and certified copies you need will depend on how you apply and whether you have level 6 english proficiency.

I've helped many with this process at Elstree. Send me a pm if you think I can help you.
