A great airline, led by an innovative team which revolutionised the charter scene by introducing legacy standards of service and generated a marvellous esprit de corps amongst the troops

One of the best things that happened to me in aviation was Air 2000, certainly in the days before Neil left.

Maybe it is about time we tried to get the 'big scots guy' to organise another reunion?

Air Europe was providing legacy standards of service before Air Two Bob entered the fray.

Hot breakfast, Bucks Fizz, hot towels etc?

Full hot breakfast/lunch/dinner was standard. Hot towels - yes. Bucks Fizz - not sure as we weren't allowed to drink when flying

Remind me how long did Orion last?

"Bucks Fizz" my @ss ...

I'll suggest it was cheap "vino collapso" sparkling wine mixed with orange juice?

Remind me how long did Orion last?

Approximately 11 years, swallowed up by Thomson, and integrated initially into Britannia Airways. A pretty good innings I would say.

Had Horizon (who owned Orion) not been bought out then Orion would probably have lasted a deal longer, though with the general nosedive in services levels on bucket and spade carriers I fear the "legacy standards" would have gone by the board at some stage whatever.

They came, they went and very few have managed what Monarch has done.48 years this year as 'The Monarch' (how much has that call sign annoyed you over the years). Often derided, but a survivor. Here's to you Monarch and the 37 years I spent with the Spotty M.

And where does the money come from that keeps Monarch going all these years, isn't it from another organision whose initial is also "M"?

Phileas, that's a good rumour to start.

Tempsford,

It's a rumour that's been doing the rounds since I was young.

When I was young Monarch were operating a clapped out fleet of the likes of B720's and BAC1-11's, pray tell me how they have managed to outsurpass so many of their betters unless there is some truth to the rumour of them being a money laundering operation?

Who were the brains behind Air2000 and where are they all now?

Lets get the ball rolling with Errol Cossey, also in at the begining at Air Europe.

Never mind Buck Fizz, I copped for a new wife from AE.
Still going strong today. Must be the Buck in the Fizz........

Error Cossey also at the beginning of Flying Colours - another fun airline at the start!

Who were the brains behind Air2000 and where are they all now?The afore-mentioned Errol Cossey on the commercial side, Angus Kinnear in operations and Neil Burrows as a pilot boss who inspired tremendous loyalty amongst his troops. Still think the original colour scheme was one of the best ever for the 757.

But isn't it sad that a thread presumably started as a tribute degenerates so quickly into tribal bitchiness?

Monarch had operated the 757 4 years before Air 2000 had even existed !!:}
