Hello.

I have decided to do my FI rating after three years of trying to get an airline job. I will be doing it part time because i currently work full time. Does anyone have any insight into part time training? I know it is not ideal to do it part time but with work and all i don't really have much choice.
Do you know any good schools that do it part time? I am based in Surrey.

Thanks.

There is absolutely nothing in a CPL, IR or FI course which requires
them to be done full time.

"Continuity" the word we like to tell to PPL students does however apply;
and towards the end of any course, leading up to test, then frequency
certainly helps.

The main reason there are not more part-time students for these 'commercial'
courses is because it is difficult for ATOs to manage.

Enough 'Flak' nick?

not understanding you nick.

Thanks level Attitude, I better start to research some schools to see if they can do part time training.

I know that Dorothy Saul-Pooley at Shoreham has trained some of her FI students on a weekends only basis, but it is not ideal. You could try asking her. She may be a bit busy this year though, as the new Master of The Honourable Company Of Air Pilots. (GAPAN as was).

If she can't help directly, she may be able to point you in the right direction.

You could also try Islam at Blackbushe Aviation. He is able to accommodate a part time training regime. In fact most of his recent FI candidates have done it part time with him.

I did it part time over 8 months due to work and it wasn't a problem.

thanks all for the replies, I will contact Blackbushe to see what they can do as i live near by, even though the travel is not so much of a problem for me.
I do have some others locations that people have given me, but overall looks as if a few flight schools can do part time FI course.

You might try Martyn Blunden at Omega flight training. I did my FI part time (one or two days a week with some large gaps in between) and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
