Greenpeace yesterday zipline-TP'd Procter & Gamble's Cincinnati HQ - and chartered a local R44 to video the event. The helo operator claims he had no clue about the actual purpose of the flight.

That is contrary to what the reporter says at the end of the report (3:05mins). Apparently, the police are investigating whether or not the helicopter dropped repelling equipment to the protesters on the roof!

Under what circumstances would would Ppruners, once airborne cancel the mission
Taking photos of a protest?
Taking photos of an illegal activity?

Hypothetical question, one the purpose of the flight is revealed, is allowing a flight to continue so an illegal activity can be photographed by the organisers of the activity, an act of complicity by the pilot?

In fact the FBI initiated an investigation, but dropped the case after the perps exonerated the pilot/operator.

News helicopters frequently film criminal acts taking place. Doesn't make the pilot complicit.
