Frequency of severe turbulance injuries

Today AvHerald reported two severe-turbulance incidents that left at least one FA with injuries serious enough to require at least a hospital stay (CX over Japan, UAL over Canada iirc).

Since neither was mentioned here, I gather they're a ho-hum non-event and it's an incorrect perception that they're coming more often?

Funny thing is I've noticed a lot of these reports this winter. Guys reporting the worst turbs of their entire careers, all over the globe too. They've been 4 episodes that I know of over the Northwestern Atlantic, another over Russia from a guy with nearly 30 years airline experience.

I've found it unusually choppy this year also.

I wouldn't be surprised if poor radar technique by the crew was involved - wrong tilt settings and simply not enough close attention being paid to the radar picture and the flight path. Add to that lack of basic knowledge on the principles of radar design and not studying the weather radar handbook. Seen it countless times.
