Around Britain Air Rally 2014 –Same way, Same day
In June 2004 an assorted group of 45 aircraft left Sywell to fly Round Britain Anticlockwise. The main objective was to give less experienced pilots the chance to “spread their wings” in a reasonably challenging environment with the support of those a bit more used to aerial touring. 10 days, 18 airfields, (including 3 RAF) and about 1400 miles later the rally finished at Old Buckenham.
10 years on some of the original group intend to repeat the exercise. Arrangements are strictly “same way, same day.” The organisers arrange and brief the airfields, pilots do their own planning, arrange their own accommodation, and are of course responsible for all the legalities such as adequate insurance. There is no entry fee, all flying machines are welcome and there’s no experience requirement. Again the aim is to tempt pilots (even old pilots) to try something a little bolder. You don’t have to do the whole ten days, pick and mix bits of the route as you wish.
This time round there are 2 “Hubs” 3-night and 2-night stops, at Oban and Perranporth to either relax or fly out and back to the islands etc. Sponsorship is being provided by the PocketFMS Foundation who are also making free downloads of their EasyVFR product available to registered participants.
The proposed route and schedule, which is provisional at this stage and subject to alteration is:
Wed 4 June – Assemble at Leicester EGBG
Thur 5 June – Lunch stop Sherbourne-in-Elmett EGCJ
Thur 5 June – Night stop Durham Tees Valley EGNV
