Hello to all!
Something more easy and less complicated this time!

As far as position reporting is concerned,it comprises the following information:

1)Callsign
2)Position
3)Time
4)Level (altitude or flight level)
5)Next position and ETA (at the next position)
6)Ensuing significant point

One confirmation:it is the same for VFR and IFR flights, right?

One question:what is the difference between 5 and 6?

Thanks you!

in the USA

we use

P
T
A
T
E
N

as we always give our callsign, we dont include that.

position (fix, )

TIME: time crossing fix

altitude: 8000 feet

Type : IFR (or vfr)

ESTIMATE of the next reporting point and the name of the next reporting point (eg; estimating Woodside VOR at 10:45 Z)

NEXT (name of the next fix after the above)

and any remarks like: severe turbulence at bozo intersection.

what is the difference between the estimate to the next reporting point

and the next one after that?

well, ATC needs to know that you are going to be over a certain point at a certain time AND WANTS TO KNOW WHERE YOU WILL BE GOING AFTER THAT POINT, BUT THEY DON'T NEED AN ESTIMATE YET. After all if woodside was your next estimated reporting point and the next point after that wasn't on your planned route they could ask, WHERE THE HECK ARE YOU GOING?

so lets say you started in Athens and were going to New York. You estimated London at X:00 z and the next fix you reported was Moscow, ATC would say: are you sure you are going to new york?

they just want to make sure you know which way you are going, so they can keep other planes away from you

I think I got it!

And,there is no difference in the report for VFR and IFR flights, right?

the only difference is you must tell ATC whether you are IFR or VFR

they need to know
