I think it's kind of hilarious that out of (by my count) 52 different forums that appear on PPRUNE, "Private Flying" is apparently the ONLY one that is considered to be a "Non-Airline" forum!

Never knew that Professional Piloting was such a narrowly defined endeavor... someone out there has Big Iron Envy I think...

Speaking of categories, what on earth is the meaning of "LAA/BMAA/BGA/BPA"? Not one of those acronyms means a thing to me!

Light Aircraft Association
British Microlight Aircraft Association
British Gliding Association (also known as the funny hat club)
British Paragliding Association

BPA = British Parachuting Association, not paragliding. That is BHPA.

Sorry. :uhoh: I was only on the paragliding website last night and could have sworn that was the mnemonic. Thanks for the correction.

and why is it "Non-Airline ForumS" ie plural, when there is only ONE forum is the section?

Most odd.

Rans6..... a non-airline forumite.

There was a general site re-organisation last year, when a lot of forums were moved around. Private Flying seems to have become isolated as the only member of the Non-Airline Forums group as a result.

It doesn't really matter, as far as I can see.

All the other fora stare enviously at the exclusivity...:)

Personally I think the instructor forum should be grouped with Private Aviation.

BHPA used to be British Hang Gliding and Paragliding association. Perhaps hang-gliding really has died since I was a member!

It's not an acronym unless it spells a word, e.g. radar, scuba, Qantas.

Even more bizarrely, under Aircrew Forums there is everything under the sun BUT actual Airline Crews. There's Freight Dogs, there's Biz Jets, Ag Flying, GA, there's Rotorheads, there's Flying Instructors and Military Aircrew. But nothing on airline crews. So whenever I want to ask the big boys about big iron stuff, let's say what the stall speed is for a 777, or if the Q400 has the same type rating as the Dash 8 or how long it takes to become a captain at Virgin Atlantic - I have no clue where to post it. There is no category for that.

Why?
