Be interesting to see how this plays out.

If the a/c was Saudi owned and operated and the Capt was a foreign i:mad:l he will be in real trouble. Local, well he will probably be elevated to high office as he would have displayed superior skills to survive such a calamity.

Most likely one of their TF- registered leases.

I love the spokesman's comment that it landed safely but overran and ended up in the maintenance area, like stopping on the runway isn't a requisite element of a safe landing!

And it landed safely but burst into flames :D

No 3 engine is off and extensive damage to wing root. Apparently no2 engine also off, though can't be sure from my standpoint.

Cargo is five APCs for Nigeria Army. Rumours that there is also explosive material on board, but this is hotly denied by the Army.

Looks like the aircraft overshot a high speed turn off, then mangled several heavy plant machines that were working near the runway.

jacdec.de gives EK-74798 as ID

Could be some of the usual nigerian exaggeration..

Most likely one of their TF- registered leases.Reportedly EK-74798, which would make it one of the pair of ex-ANA -200Fs that Saudia have on lease from Armenian carrier Veteran.

Police anti-bomb squad now attending - looks like somebody doesn't believe the Army...

Not much detail, but there seems to be something on the r/h side. Possibly a tanker or maybe emergency equipment ?

The yellow equipment you see in the photo are various excavators, generators etc that were crushed by the aircraft. They had been carrying out some maintenance work at the side of the runway.

report of an overrun doesn't make sense as there are no maintenence areas at the ends of the runway.

I think they are referring to the maintenance that was being carried out (very rare occurrence in my experience) to the side of the runway. (i.e. not a maintenance area for aircraft)

Given that 747-200 Freighters are not terribly valuable anymore, I'd guess a hull loss.

WIP is on the rwy. Notam on lda 2500 m - lightning very poor at the end though!!

On the skid marks it looks like they saw the runway end comming close too fast, and could not make the highspeed exit, unfortunately they made it to the grass where heavy machines where parked for the night.

Eng 2+3 both heavy damaged.

Lots of military and 2 firetrucks during unloading, so maybe a lucky day!

At least only aluminium damaged....

Think this may depend on whether or not it has a nose door? Some of the -300 BCF conversions are not so popular as they don't have a nose door.

According to the Boeing data base, it's a passenger conversion, with close to 90,000 hours.

I'm sticking with a hull loss. http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/src:www.pprune.org/get/images/smilies/evil.gif

It has been confirmed that the contents of the Saudi Arabian Airline that ran into some construction equipment at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Wednesday, December 04, 2013, were security hardware.

The plane landed at about 9:19pm that day and blocked the only major runway at the airport, delaying takeoff and landing of flights in the airport for over 20 hours.

LEADERSHIP had exclusively reported that the Saudi cargo plane was carrying 15 Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) made in Russia, which compounded its immediate evacuation from the runway.

In a reaction to LEADERSHIP story, the Embassy of Saudi Arabia agreed that the plane originated from Saudi Arabia and was carrying bullet-proof cars made in South Africa.

In a letter, dated December 20 to LEADERSHIP, the Saudi Embassy clarified that the Boeing 747 plane marked K 74798 “was chartered by Saudi Arabia Airline, carrying bullet-proof cars and its final destination is Murtala Muhammad Airport, Lagos, Nigeria.

The detailed description of the content of the plane is as follows: a set of bullet-proof cars weighing 58 tonnes. Another set of five bullet-proof cars weighing 42 tonnes.

“The goods were a portion of a supply contract for 10 bullet-proof cars to a government agency in Nigeria, which were to be conveyed from Sharjah (UAE) via Abuja, through Fast Forward Cargo US UAC, to Defence Industries of Nigeria (DICON), 45 Ahmadu Bello Way, Kaduna, through the company’s contact person: Mr Nwajpudu Livinston/CCC. The goods were manufactured in South Africa.”
