My company documentation refers to minima changes relating to partial appraoch lighting failures. The minima to be used are those for BALS,IALS and NALS.

However I am unable to find any charted minima referring to these failed conditions; the Jeppesen charts only show Full,Limited and No Approach lights minima.

Can anyone shed some light (no pun intended) on these conditions and what minima would be used for the BALS,IALS and NALS conditions?

Your operator should also provide you with a table for Failed or Downgraded Equipment – Effect on Landing Minima

FULL refers to FALS
Limited refers to IALS
No Approach Lights refers to NALS

Definitions of Approach Light Systems

FALS (Full Approach Light System) ICAO: Precision approach CAT I Lighting System (HIALS >720 m) distance coded centreline, Barrette centreline.
IALS (Intermediate Approach Light System) ICAO: Simple approach lighting system (HIALS 420-719 m) single source, Barrette.
BALS (Basic Approach Light System) Any other approach lighting system (HIALS, MIALS or ALS 210-419 m).
NALS (No Approach Light System) Any other approach lighting system (HIALS, MIALS or ALS < 210 m) or no approach lights.

An RVR of less than 750 m may be used For Category 1 approach operations to runways with FALS (Full Approach Lighting System) (see below), Runway Touchdown Zone Lights (RTZL) and Runway Centreline Lights (RCLL) provided that the DH is not more than 200 ft.

Cat 1 with a DA between 200-210 ft, requires an RVR of:

550m FALS*
750m IALS
1000m BALS
1200m NALS

List continues for higher DA's...

Downgraded equipment (abbreviated):

Approach lights except the last 420 m, nil effect on CAT 3 & 2, Cat 1 & NPA require IALS minimums
Approach lights except the last 210 m, nil effect on Cat 3, Cat 2 not allowed, Cat 1 and NPA require use of NALS minima
Approach lights, Cat 3 with DA>50ft not allowed, Cat 2 not allowed, Cat 1 & NPA require NALS minima

No problem, we have to use it regularly as demonstrated by the following NOTAMs for EGBB-BHX due to runway extension works:

Hi again Skyjob

Thanks for the detailed explanation, very useful..

Excuse me for appearing dull, but where did you get the following info from?

An RVR of less than 750 m may be used For Category 1 approach operations to runways with FALS (Full Approach Lighting System) (see below), Runway Touchdown Zone Lights (RTZL) and Runway Centreline Lights (RCLL) provided that the DH is not more than 200 ft.

Cat 1 with a DA between 200-210 ft, requires an RVR of:
550m FALS*
750m IALS
1000m BALS
1200m NALS

I can't find a reference for these values anywhere, but you obviously have.

Cheers

Excuse me for appearing dull, but where did you get the following info from?

EU-OPS 1, SUBPART E - All weather operations:

http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=OJ:L:2008:254:0001:0238:EN:PDF

BUT...

It really doesn't matter that much, I just posted it to show you what the source is.... Where you should find the information is really in your OM-A chapter 8. Your operator has based the therein contained information on EU Ops.
