I have JeppFD on my iPad 3 and bought it mainly for Jepp's approach plates. Now it seems that JeppFD can't or won'tt display ownship position on approach plates. It does so on the enroute chart but not plates. Ami I missing something? This can surely be only a joke, right?

Thanks for any guidqnce on this.

I don't think it will show on the approach plates, only the taxi chart.

I don't think it will show on the approach plates, only the taxi chart. How lame is that?!? I saw a friend running Jepp FD on a Windows tablet and it DID have GPS position on all charts and plates plus a whole lot more useful stuff. What was I seeing?

It wasn't Jepp FD, that isn't available for windows tablets (according to Jepp's own FAQ), it may have been Jepp FD Pro, but there is no mention of own ship position on terminal charts in the help file for that either.

He said it was Jeppesen Flight Deck. And, yes, Jepp FD Pro apparently doesn't show your position on APs either. I downloaded the app in trial mode. There're the same setting options as for Jepp FD (non-Pro): ownship on enroute charts and taxi charts only.

Does anyone know more about Jeppesen's intentions for the immediate future regarding this?

There is an issue with digitising approach charts, so Jeppesen elected to only show "own ship" on airport charts, and even then, only on the original airport chart and not temporary charts.

That can't be it, I positively did see ownship position being displayed and updated on an AP. I sat there watching it. And it definitely looked like Jeppesen FD running on a Windows tablet. And it isn't difficult to have digitised, geo-referenced APs because a lot of other companies offer them just fine.

It might be related to the fact that to get approval to actually use EFB charts on a tablet, displaying ownsip position is specifically prohibited. You're supposed to be flying the aeroplane using the avionics and just using the tablet in lieu of paper plates.

I suspect that the removal of ownship position from Arrival/Approach charts etc. may be in some way down to the position of the charting solution provider's desire to meet obligations set out in the latest CRD to NPA 2012-02 (that proposes a new AMC20-25) for Commercial Air Transport.

In essence, for CAT this means that (subject to certain criteria), AMMD (Airport Moving Map Display) may be used (not as a primary means, mind) in conjunction with other approved means of ground navigation (i.e. Taxiing) as a Class B software application. Most definitely not (at this current moment in time) for any other phase of flight......therefore, what BizJetJock said ;-).

I posted the above so that if you get very bored, you can Google the above documents and see the length and breadth of development currently occurring with EFB's.......

- if your private cat. ops., do what you like lol!

Our company gave us trial version before releasing the approved EFB class 1 ( IPad) the ownship is displayed ONLY on enroute and taxi chart ( minimum EPE is 17mts for taxi to display ownship) and 200 for enroute.

Only in the trial version we were able to display ownship on app chart ( and radar minima) with an EPE of max 50mts

I think the limitation may be in the Company customised IAL or in the version of the FD Pro which is developed in accordance to Company/Customer specifications together with the approval of the Country Civil Aviation Authority

JeppFD works fine with me and it does display ownship on every approach plate!

Make sure that you have selected to display ownship in the JeppFD settings.

Also, I use a Bluetooth DUAL XGPS160 SkyPro.

Seamlessly, never had a problem with JeppFD or DUAL GPS.

NB: JeppFD works on iPads only. JeppTC works on Android devices and TC has less functionality!

PS. If you still cannot figure it out, call Jeppesen tech support at +13033284274 or +18006315377 and talk to any tech support specialist. Good luck!

Out of interest, this friend of yours with the Windows tablet, does he fly for Delta?
