Steer well clear, a DSFS instructor was videoed spinning ( by his student ) over a city recently in an aircraft not rated to spin, not on a spinning lesson, just for kicks.

This may not mean much to you at your stage, but believe me you don't want it.

And that instructor is no longer working there, precisely because of that. You get instructors at lots of schools doing things they shouldn't, and I don't think you can blame the schools for that.

Sandtoft is just up the road, Why not give them a ring & see if you like it there?

Several Instructors & CFI is a Flight examiner.
we Have C150/152 C172 & a PA28 on the fleet to learn in without having to pay circuit or landing fee's.

If the correct ethos was maintained that situation would not have happened. A CFI monitors his understudy instructors and advises what's acceptable from day one. This is NOT common behaviour.

So you know that the correct ethos was not maintained or that the instructor was not aware of what was acceptable? The instructor is now teaching at another airfield and has done a similar thing again, even though he clearly knew he shouldn't have done it after the first incident.

As you seem to know wb9999, would it be true to say another instructor from DSFS was entering the circuit at Gamston, when an aircraft, faster than him/her was long established on final, clearly calling thus several times. When the DSFS aircraft pretty closely / dangerously cut them up causing many people to be annoyed . This was on the verge of being officially reported but was neatly swept under the carpet.

Yes or no ?

Safety ethos.

People in the area are entitled to their views and offer advice based on FACT. As to the instructor repeating his idiocy ,well that's an issue you've highlighted for his new club and as somebody else stated possibly the CAA.

I've no further interest in this thread. :ugh:

Justto lighten the mood, from my experience flying schools are like supermarkets, MandS down to Lidl, Lidl looks OK , even initially tastes alright, but sooner or later you'll pass your rotted intestine and it will hurt !

I don't know why you're asking me. I only know about the spinning incident via a friend who had heard about it. The amount of info I have on the matter can be written on the back of a postage stamp.

I assume you would you advise a potential student to avoid the airfield where the instructor is now teaching at. Sounds like it's not a million miles from where you fly.

There was a huge thread about this place with lots of genuine issues, it was removed because somebody complained about something. Contained lots of stories.

There was a huge thread about this place with lots of genuine issues,

The thread started by GoldenEaglePilot as part of his blackmail campaign against lots of aviation companies?

Peter, I'm not disputing that. I said that the person who started the thread was GoldenEaglePilot, who was eventually banned due to some less than legal practices. I guess that's why the thread was removed.

You should look at York Flying School and visit Breighton , give Sherburn, full Sutton and Sandtoft a look too. Big airfield flying often wastes lots of time, and time costs you money.

I second the praise, just passed my skills test with YFS. I got checked out by Cas Smith from Full Sutton and instructed by Steve Hall. Nothing to complain about, highly recommend. - Breighton is a fantastic airfield as well!

I left this place, instructor was unbelievably rude, swearing in front of my kids etc.. got fed up with constant fuel runs to get cheaper stuff near retford, then i got charged for the privilege ! On one really windy flight i was only in control for maybe 20 mins all flight. Waste of money. I was told it was good "experience ". The guy moaned constantly about his boss and plane problems !

I tried to ring the boss Christian, no answer and he arrives so late i couldnt wait.

Never was a club so OVERSOLD on the net, youd believe it was only 2nd to BA in terms of training from the tinternet. In reality the place is big enough for one student !! BAD EXP.

Why do we have two posters Peter1234 7 posts and PETE1234 1 post seems that as soon as the name GoldenEaglePilot / Kevin Crellin is mentioned these threads turn into witch hunts and fact less slurs!
Whatever happened to that crook?

Dsfs have stopped tankering fuel with students at Gamston now, theyve not been in for a bit doing that. Primarily because they're hitting Sturgate hard now doing exactly the same thing !

Lord knows why students just accept it.

PACE - that is not slur, its based on fact. Go see.

If you're not far from Humberside then Frank Morgan flying school gets my vote. Great school and some top instructors, plus a better mix of aircraft type than Donny I suspect.

I have no experience of Doncaster flying school, but have recently completed my NPPL with Stuart and Caz at full Sutton, I felt the instruction was good and had no problems at all.

You will for any airfield, doesn’t matter where and what they fly it. I trained at Multiflight, which is now PTT and have just as many negative opinions as positive. I would recommend location and personal feel about the service.

For that area there is a few fields to choose from, apart from D/S:

PTT @ LBA
York Flying School @ Breighton
Sandtoft
Gamston
Sherburn-in-Elmet

Maybe some others but they come to mind first.

Instructor John Shaw and Gamston Flying School would be my recommendation. Good selection of aircraft, friendly & knowledgeable staff, plus on-line booking. I did my initial IMC there, and have also revalidated there a couple of times, plus rented their aircraft when our own has been U/S.

I'll second John Shaw and Gamston. I sometimes rent from Gamston Flying School and they are a good bunch.

I think they have closed down due to some kind of management changes. It's all Up in the air at the moment, excuse the irony.

Info from an x student who was half way thru his training
