the battery on my Garmin 496 is on its way out. While I was looking for a replacement (c. £50 for a garmin original), i noticed lots of non-Garmin alternatives for about one half/third of the price. The main alternative was the Cameron Sino variant.

Anyone had any experience of using Cameron Sino batteries for Garmins? Not fond of frying my unit with some dodgy battery...

thanks in advance

Call Garmin tech support and ask their advice before buying anything. You never know what the result of that conversation might be, they were very kind fo me a couple of years ago.

The battery in my 296 went. After much deliberation I decided to order the genuine article from Transair. However I was told after ordering it was on a long leadtime. I elected to put this on back order and as a stop gap also purchased a Cameron Sino unit which I used a couple of times before the Garmin arrived.

I had not issue with this and , with the exception of the lettering, look pretty much identical.

Im going to keep the CS one in my bag fully charged as a spare just in case.
