Authorities arrested an American Airlines pilot at Lindbergh Field on April 23 after a loaded firearm allegedly was discovered in his carry-on luggage at a security checkpoint.

William F. Blaylock, 57, was booked into County Jail on several felony charges, including possession of a loaded firearm in a public building and being in possession of an unregistered firearm.

Blaylock, of San Diego, was freed on bail Wednesday. He could not be reached yesterday.

Michael J. Aguilar, federal security chief at Lindbergh, said Blaylock told authorities he had been hunting and had the gun with him for personal protection. The pilot said he forgot to remove the weapon from his bag.

A Harbor Police report on the incident did not reveal whether Blaylock was on his way to pilot an airliner or to be a passenger.

A phone call placed to American Airlines headquarters in Dallas was not returned.
