I understand this is normally a club rule for hirers for insurance purposes..?
If I'm the owner of the a/c, is there any legal requirement? Tim

As an owner it is your privilege to set your own rules. But don't be too generous especially with other pilots, unless you know they are super sky gods. We reduced our limits from 90 to 45 days because one of our sky gods wasn't

I support Robin. A low time pilot <250 hours, and/or <20 hours per year is probably not competent if acting PIC only every two months. I have 2800+ hours in the C150 I have owned for 26 years. I once asked my insurer how little I would have to fly before they would become concerned. The answer was ten hours a year. That make the 28 day frequency seem to fit in....

But if you ever get to be in charge of renting aircraft, make the period 31 days rather than 28.

e.g. if you hire on a Saturday, then you can't get out again until Sunday four weeks and one day later, a 31 day rule is much more agreeable than a 28 day rule without significantly compromising safety.
