I appreciate that this question has probarbly been asked at least a 100 times before, however can anybody tell me the minimum visual requirements required, ie 20/20, 20/30.
My medical is due later this week and before I waste any money I would like to be fairly sure I can pass the eyetest.
I don't currently wear glasses and consider my vision o.k.
I can't get an appointment with an optician before my medical so is there a quick test I can do? For example read a standard UK number plate from what distance?
Also is there anything I should be wary of in the medical?

Thanx in advance

If you dont wear glasses then you'll be fine - I do, but my eyesight is still good enough for a class 1. I'm assuming you aren't colour blind - this introduces complications...

Take a look at:

http://www.caa.co.uk/srg/med/document.asp?groupid=211

particularly the document called "JAR Class 2 Visual Standards - Initial Examination" :)

However, I had to get a form filled in by an optician before my class 2 could be issued, so you may have to get an appointment. It required a detailed examination (which included Ishihara plates) and I doubt that anyone but an optician could do it. Maybe it was a result of me wearing glasses, but I don't think so.

FWIW, my eyesight is 20/120 and 20/200 uncorrected (not good) but perfect when corrected - and according to the AME within Class 1 limits (I asked). The only requirement is for me to always carry a spare pair of glasses....
