Hi all,

Just a quickie.
I know that switching from one Airbus type to another is relatively easy, e.g the A320 family.

I was wondering if anyone knows if Pilots switch between types during a typical working day, e.g can a Pilot start the day in an A319 and end flying an A320 or A321?

Think about the question you've just asked, then think about duty time and logistics. Very unlikely for any pilot to fly two different aircraft in one day though probably happens on very rare occasions.

Yes they can.

I routinely switched between the 319 and the 320 at my last company. No big deal.

Wonder why dutytime should have anything to do with switching variants of one type. The A320 family is considered as one type with four variants currently, same as the 737NG is one type with, guess what, four variants as well, which you can switch during a normal working day too. Switching aircraft/variants during a single duty period isn't liked by many, but absolutely routine operation.

Now, switching between different types (and not just variants) like A320 and A330 during the same duty period might be a different thing dependent on local and/or company regulations.

In my company it can be quite common to fly an A330 in the morning and an A340 in the afternoon, or the other way round of course!

Yes its very common.

Today I flew 1 sector on A319, then 2 on A320
Yesterday was 1 on A320, then 1 on A319
the day before was 2 on A321 then, 1 on A319

I've flown all 3 variants in one day in the past.
