As I am heading to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia next week, can someone tell me if the procedure followed in this video is standard for KAS aviation? Note the sound of the engines once the aircraft enters the storm.

Yeah - that's the sound of the sand becoming glass on the high pressure turbine blades:}:D:D

I would have thought SOP would be to not enter the sand storm at all.

I'm not a pilot myself, but I've heard that all pilots in the region are required to sign a special meteo contract. One clause sets out the procedures for flying in fog, another clause sets out the rules for flying in heavy rain. Strangely enough there are no rules about sandstorms.

When you think about it, there is no such thing as Sandy Claus.

What sound? where in video clip?

The only change I detected was a typical accelerating fan blade whine in the last 3 secs.

If there was an engine anomaly the engines are probably now toast and unfit for further use.

meanwhile comments above are on the mark.

I have lived in the ME for a few years and only seen two; that shown was a real one.

I would guess the engines and windows may be scrap.

You won't see one but, if you do, avoid it.
