I believe the rule in the Bahamas is no night VFR anywhere in Bahamian airspace.

Even IFR you need runway lights to land!

(Hi Nigel)

Happy ending to similar situation in Peru: BBC News - Locals light up remote Peruvian airstrip for emergency night-flight (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-22039813)

Just who should take the responsibilty for the lighting? the ground or the pilots.

This accident struck me with questions like where were the cars or truck parked? which way were the lights aimed? Was the plane significantly not aligned with the runway?

...not to mention what this shows about Bahamian security procedures.

PJ2 "...not to mention what this shows about Bahamian security procedures."

And how would you address "security procedures" in the dead of night at 50+ remote, unattended airstrips across hundreds of miles of tiny out islands in a country with a population of 300,000?

GB - you can't. That's the point.
