Hi - I was on the 747-400 from 1989 until my retirement in Jan 2000. During this time there were very many new innovations. Acars, Tcas, cat 3b blind landings, barber pole take offs in fog etc etc. What have I missed since then?

Hello! To name a couple then the A380 has Brake to Vacate (BTV) as an autobrake option. You tell the aircraft which taxiway you'd like to vacate at and it modulates the braking to bring you to taxi speed as appropriate.

Also on the 380 (and Im sure others) is a moving taxiway map on the Navigation Display, showing you your current position.

The video below is a good example of the level of technology

Synthetic Vision, moving aircraft symbol on Jepp chart, Enhanced Vision, real paperless cockpits. We do all flight plan notations on iPad and Bluetooth around so both pilots are seeing the same document. Plotting chart is next.

Casualisation of labour, reduction in terms and conditions of pilots, rape and pillage of pensions, kids paying to fly, ridiculously low yields, constantly name changing by governmental bodies... Oh, and a few volcanoes!
