Hello

I'm toying with the idea of either doing my Comm in the USA or South Africa. I wanted to ask some question of some who may be in the know moreo then I about the pro's and Con's of either decision.

1. Can I do my Comm in SA (an ICAO member) and convert to the US license through the 61.75 process ; will this allow me to effectively obtain a US Comm which can be renewed in the US?

2. Would I still have to renew my original PPL to fly in the US or does the most advanced license take preference in whatever country it is valid?

3. Is there any negative views from the US community on a foreign endorsed license, or is it not an issue?

Thanks for any help.

The FAA will only issue a private under 61.75 no matter what level of foreign license you hold. The only way to get a FAA commercial is pass the written and complete the "normal" training and checkride.

The 61.75 certificate is only valid while the original foreign license is valid so you have to keep foreign license valid.
