Hi,

Does anyone know of , or indeed if such a thing exists, a regular publication that would keep a PPL instructor up to date with such things as regulations, changes and any other pertinent useful information.

Looking for something like a regular newsletter, website or other such (official) publication.

Thanks

There are a number of publications that an instructor should be aware of including:

CAA publications (http://www.caa.co.uk/default.aspx?catid=175)
e.g. ANO CAP393; Standards Documents; Information Notices; Safety Sense Leaflets
EASA Regulations (http://eur-lex.europa.eu/en/index.htm)
UK AIP and AICs (http://www.nats-uk.ead-it.com/public/index.php.html)
GASIL (http://www.ukfsc.co.uk/information/caa-notifications/271-gasil)
NOTAMS (http://notaminfo.com/ukmap)

Well, perhaps not GASIL any more as it ceased production last year.

Thanks guys,

I am aware of all of these. I was more looking for maybe something which is aimed at Instructors that pulls any relevant information together and updates the user on a regular basis.

Something that keeps instructors up to date with the 'instructor/student world' if you like.

I get publications like GASCO Flight Safety (which incorporates GASIL) but this is a more general magazine obviously aimed at safety.

Sadly, there is no such thing. The CAA has over the years published briefs in the form of Newsletters, and finally TrainingCom but the latter was hijacked by the administrators before disappearing without trace!

The latest CAA policy appears to be that it's up to individuals to find out whats going on, possibly, because they don't know either!

A decent website/publication which brought together all current information of relevance to instructors and examiners (on a monthly basis?) would, I am sure, be of interest and value.

The question is which brave soul would volunteer to collate the information?!

Easiest way to find out what is happening is to have a CAA subscription and then an email is sent everytime something new is announced.
Choose the topics you wish to follow.
CAA Subscriptions - New Registration | Publications | About the CAA (http://www.caa.co.uk/application.aspx?catid=33&pagetype=65&appid=35&mode=logonnew)

Holryn, perhaps you should consider becoming an AOPA Instructor Member?

The AOPA website is updated with new information as it becomes known - relevant items are collated and forwarded to the webmaster, a member of the AOPA Members' Working Group. The AOPA Instructor Committee is kept informed of all new flight instructor matters and if you have queries or doubts, you can contact the office.

You will also find a lot of information in the association's magazine General Aviation and an e-newsletter is to be launched shortly.

A periodic flick through the GA mags (eg PILOT) at the newsagents is worthwhile, as is a perusal of FTN which most clubs and schools subscribe to anyway in my experience. From a knowledge perspective, it's not a bad idea to review the Theoretical Knowledge QB at the back of Standards Doc 10 once in a while - I'm aware this is also used by ATOs for FI recruitement and assessment purposes.

Thanks for the replies.

I guess I knew the answer that there isn't anything 'collated'.

Will look into the Aopa Instructor Membership.
