A friend has just posted on FB picture he took on the runway standing next to the nose, after what looks like an A330 evacuation of KLM, surrounded by fire engines in the last 1-2 hours today. He was a passenger on the flight. No more news from him at this minute.

Anybody got some more news????

(sigh)
it was not an evacuation. stairs were used to DISEMBARK.
Orderly conduct, technical malfunction of some sort.
Move on people, nothing to see here.

A return back for landing with smoke in the cabin, disemebarking on the runway and you say "Move on people, nothing to see here. You must be joking Fox Niner???

That's almost the standard KLM reply nowadays to prevent bad press

No RYR for me

You must be joking Fox Niner??? Nope a response by an industry professional who is all well to aware that the average journo will create another "passenger last minute escape from a smoking aircraft at the very last minute" kind of cr@p story out of this.

"A KLM Airbus A330-200, registration PH-AOL performing flight KL-437 from Amsterdam (Netherlands) to Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates), had just reached cruise level 350 about 150nm eastsoutheast of Amsterdam when the crew decided to return to Amsterdam due to a strong odour on board. The aircraft landed safely on Amsterdam's runway 18R about one hour after departure, vacated the runway and stopped on taxiway P7 near the runway where passengers disembarked via stairs. Measurements by emergency services did not find anything abnormal.

A replacement Airbus A330-200 registration PH-AOI is estimated to reach Abu Dhabi with a delay of 4:15 hours.""

Thank you for that accurate report on the situation, no doubt we will see other reports involving screaming panicking passengers, aircraft plummeting and the like from those who think that anywhere inside the airport fence that is not a duty free shop is called the runway.
