GPS question

Hope someone will be able to help, advise.

Im now looking for GPS solution for IFR flying. Im looking for handheld device for practicing approches in VMC conditions. (do not worry I wish not to fly in hard IMC using handheld GPS).

What options would I have ? Recentely I have heard about people using I-pad with Garmin Pilot application and external GPS antena. Is that possible in Europe too ?

I must mention my budget is limitted so if You could take it into account.

Suggestion: Don't! IFR = loads-a-money. Unless you can afford training, certified equipment and a reasonable amount of flying to stay current, you can't afford it. So don't bother. Really.

Ah... there's another thing. If you do get such a device, who looks out while you are looking in?
