For some reason the CAA now request cross country experience on application forms. Is this considered everything away from the zone (ie everything except circuit details) or only flights from airfield A to airfield B?

Are you refering to PPL Application Forms?

If so nothing has changed:

10 Hour Solo required - Of which 5 Hour must be Solo Nav and must
include QXC (1 Flight of 150nm including 2 x Full Stop Landings at
two different airfields which were not the airfield of departure)

I am unaware of any other Nav requirements

No, sorry - the CPL application

That's always been on the CPL application form.

I would just total up everything away from the circuit and call that cross country, A-B is not required.

FCL 010 Definitions
‘Cross-country’ means a flight between a point of departure and a point of arrival following a pre-planned route, using standard navigation procedures. i.e. there should have been turning points but there is nothing to say the point of departure and arrival cannot be the same point.
