Hi - I would really appreciate some help on what I need todo as a minimum (tests, training, exams etc ) to revalidate the privileges ofmy CAA PPL (A), SEP and FROTL as I really want to get back into flyingregularly (especially as I know live a short distance from an airfield!!).
I want to ensure I am EASA compliant of course.
History:
PPL (A) licenceissued in the UK in Sept 1995. Validity states ..."shall remain in forcefor the holder's lifetime...licence holder is entitled to exercise licence privilegeson aircraft registered in the UK..."

FROTL alsoissued in 1995. Validity states..."licence shall remain in force for theholder's lifetime...".

SEP ratingexpired in July 2003. Class 2Medical now expired.

Last flownas P1 ten years ago today, in March 2003 - only amassed 85.45 hrs between 1995- 2003 (stop start flying due to career).

Thanks

Quite simple really, go to the airfield and complete whatever training the school (RF) consider necessary; with a gap of 10 years you may need up to 10 hours training then pass a SEP class rating proficiency check and apply to CAA to reissue your SEP rating. You will need to obtain an EASA licence as your existing lifetime licence will cease to be valid on EASA aircraft after 8th April 2014. You will still be able to use it on Annex II aircraft. No written exams, test about an hour in duration.

Also make sure the application forms are completed correctly, are the latest issue, and include a SRG 1199 to ensure you are English Language level 6.

Re the forms, do you agree with the following, and please bear in mind I only print the relevant pages! For the above, ie outside the 3 year renewal time where CAA licence action required, including the issue of an EASA licence.

SRG 1119C "Renewal". Possibly SRG 1119E "Course Completion"to signify training took place. SRG 1157 "Examiners report", which includes Eng Level 6.
SRG 2199 "Examiners report" required by SRG 1119C.

Forms required
SRG 1119D Course Completion Certificate
SRG 1119C Application for renewal of a Class rating by CAA
SRG 1157 Examiners report superseded 2199 in October

SRG 1104 EASA licence application

Thanks thus far. I was told by a CFI that as over ten years I would need to to a comms (PPL) and practical test to renew my FRTOL. Is this not case any longer?

Also I would need to do a full PPL skills test. No written exams need to be re-done? Is this right?

Sorry, I meant SRG 1119D for " course completion". Re SRG 1157/2199, both are available and not specified as to which is to be used in addition to the "prof check" on the SRG 1119 A ,B or C.
Stds Doc 14 Ver. 6, para 12.9, page 16 simply asks for SRG 1119 and the SRG 1157 retained by the examiner.
As said above, for renewal within the 3 year period, I am completing SRG 1119C, both examiner forms, signing the logbook (test), completing the licence revalidation page; and if they intend to apply for an EASA licence in the near future, completing the SRG1199. Oh, and I take a copy of the SRG 1157/1119.
NB I am not using the SRG 1119D unless training takes place and licence "action" is required.
Basically making it up as I go along!

That was the case but that requirement is not in the current CAP 804 which states: 3.5 FRTOL Validity
Stand alone UK FRTOL issued before 17 September 2012, had a ten year validity. When these licences expire, if the holder still requires to hold an FRTOL, they must complete form SRG 1106 and pay the appropriate fee.

A UK FRTOL issued after 17 September 2012, does not expire, but it is not valid unless the holder has language proficiency in English at Level 6, or at Level 4 or 5 that has not expired.

Note there is no mention of the majority case of a FRTOL issued with a pilots licence prior to 17 Sept 2012! As you already have a lifetime FRTOL, it would appear there is now nothing to do!

Also I would need to do a full PPL skills test. NO NO NO! there has been no such requirement for the past 13 years! PPL Skill Test is for initial licence issue only. You do a Licencing Proficiency Check.

How do I know if I have a standalone FROTL (i.e. need to renew after 10 years) or a combined PPL one (that does not need to be renewed)? Both were issued at the same time but are seperate pieces of paper.

Thanks all

If you had a stand alone, you would not have any other Flight Crew Licensed issued by the UK CAA

You also stated:FROTL alsoissued in 1995. Validity states..."licence shall remain in force for theholder's lifetime...".

I never did manage to revalidate based on the advice below from 2 years ago. I am keen to start at the end of this year beginning of 2016 for sure but can someone advise if the information provide below on what I need to do to re-validate is still current?

Thanks

Training as required plus test.

Perhaps one of the good things about Europe is that the requirement is the same however long you have let it go. You will of course need more practice as time goes by, and all requirement shave to be met at a RF or ATO rather than with an individual instructor. The Examiner remains your choice.

Try Henlow Flying Club, just a short trip up the A1
