Not if your portable ELT is fitted with a G switch. What make and model are you using?

One or both may be inoperative for a maximum of 6 sectors or 25 flight hours,
whichever occurs first.

How many occupants is your aircraft certified for?

We had a ramp inspection at Frankfurt about 2 years ago on an Airbus A300 frieghter, Irish register.

There were 4 inspectors and one of them got excited because our ELT was switched off as per our procedures. He said this was wrong and it should be armed. I showed him our ops. manual but he did not agree.
Another inspector said it was OK as we were certified for max 9 occupants.
It took nearly 2 hours of phone calls and discussion for the original inspector to accept this.
